The Ropeman 2 ascender is a good alternative to prusiks or heavier ascenders. It's basically an incomplete ascender until you attach a screwgate carabiner to it. The latter acts as a column on which the cam presses the string. This version features forged side plates and an aluminum cam; it is a bit lighter than previous versions and provides smooth operation with various types of carabiners and thin ropes.
